Take action to help children in Fukushima whose lives are now in danger !

[URGENT Support]

Conclusion of the Judgment by Sendai High Court and remarks by supporters

On June 24 in 2011, 14 elementary and junior high school students from Koriyama City, Fukushima Prefecture sought a temporary injunction, as a means of emergency relief, at the Koriyama branch of the Fukushima district court, demanding the municipal authority of Koriyama to give classes in an environment with annual radiation dose of less than 1 mSv.(‥‥>more)

The 14 students did this not only for their own evacuation, but also for the evacuation of all the children who were having classes in an environment with a dangerously high level of radiation. However, it was difficult for all students to participate in the trial in such short a time. Therefore, the 14 decided to lead the way in seeking refuge from radiation.

Within the trial, we conducted a detailed comparison of the situation in Fukushima with Chernobyl, leading to a warning that thyroid cancer and heart disease which was found in children in Chernobyl is likely to occur in Koriyama also. However, the court gave its decision to refuse the childrens' application on December 16 – the very same day that Prime Minister Noda gave his deceiving “cold shutdown” declaration.

This decision declares to the 14 children and all other children in Fukushima at the same risk that “unless you evacuate at your own responsibility, we don't care what happens to you,” or in other words, totally disregarding the children of Fukushima – a decision which is a gross human rights violation.

In the face of the immense man-made disaster that is the Fukushima nuclear power plant accident, legislation, governmental administration and the judiciary have announced themselves their failure to function. Because of that, the children of Fukushima's lives are now being put greatly at risk.

When a democratic state fails to function, it is the citizens themselves, holding sovereignty of the state, who must stand up to overcome this. Furthermore, it is the fundamental responsibility of these sovereign citizens to protect and save the society's children. On February 26 in Tokyo and March 17 in Koriyama, we held Global Citizens' Tribunals in order to make publicly clear the judgment of citizens from around the world, with a jury made of citizens from around the world giving their judgment in regards to the evacuation of the children.
These voices of citizens from around the world for the Global Citizens' Forum will support the Evacuation Trial as judgments showing the good consciences and common sense of global citizens, supporting setting things right and saving the children.
We call for citizens from around the world to fulfill their fundamental responsibilities as citizens to protect and save children, by participating in the World Citizens' Tribunal to give our own judgments of this trial.

Thank you sincerely for your consideration and participation.
